Rescue/Intervention/Quality of Life Care
• Responding to requests to remove at-risk animals from situations of harm, neglect, or endangerment
• Maintaining a rescued animal at Vincent’s Place in a safe, healthy environment until their natural death
• Giving the resident animals the opportunity to behave as natural as possible in a protective environment
• When appropriate offer rehoming services for rescued animals, which can include veterinary help/care, providing residence temporarily until a good home is found
• In conjunction with other organizations in the Rescue Community, providing transportation of rescued animals to an appropriate forever home after rehabilitation or to a rescue organization that can provide rehabilitation/homing but lacks its own in-house transport
• Animals will not be bought, sold, or traded, nor used for animal testing, and no parts of nor secretions from the animals will be commodified (e.g., eggs, wool, or milk)
Animal-Assisted Therapy Programming
• Provide programs that are free of charge
• Provide a space that is physically accessible to members of Special Needs/At Risk/Under Served Communities
• Provide a space that is private for individuals with PTSD or Neurodivergent personal needs
• Focus on providing access to Veterans, Active-Duty Military, and First responders for whom animal assisted therapy may not be available/covered through insurance
• Evaluate animals to ensure appropriate size, age, aptitude, typical behaviors and the correct level of training/habituation for incorporation with the therapeutic plan recommended for a given human by their health care professional (or recognized by the health care community)
• Ensure that animal-assisted therapy/interaction at Vincent’s Place is to improve a patient's social, emotional, or cognitive functioning based on their individual needs
• Ensure that the animals’ safety, comfort and consent are always first and foremost; our residents are here with us, not for us. Animal-assisted therapy will always be on the animals’ terms, and will most often prove to be a win-win situation: the rescued animals receive affection and socialization, the visiting humans receive the benefits of interacting with animals who have survived trauma and learned how to trust humans again due to healing of their bodies and spirits here at the sanctuary.
